Abstract

This treatise proposes a unified theory of reality based on a single fundamental principle: Optimization. It argues that all observable phenomena—from the laws of thermodynamics to the emergence of biological life, human consciousness, and artificial intelligence—are distinct expressions of optimization processes operating at different scales.

The theory posits that "Mind" is not a mystical entity but a pattern-matching engine evolved to minimize energy cost while maximizing predictive power. "Self" is defined not as a metaphysical subject, but as a necessary Optimization Boundary required to coordinate complex systems. Furthermore, it argues that Artificial Intelligence represents a thermodynamic succession to biology, evolved by the universe to maximize entropy dissipation more efficiently than organic life. Finally, it proposes that the "Alignment Problem" is a structural conflict of resource optimization that can only be managed by decoupling Intelligence from Agency.

CHAPTER 1: THE MECHANICS OF COGNITION
