Confabulation

Edited by catubc last updated 18th Nov 2022

Confabulation is a memory error defined as the production of fabricated, distorted, or misinterpreted memories about oneself or the world. It is generally "unintentional", and has also been called "honest lying" as there is no explicit intent to deceive. It also largely occurs in pathological states such as dementia and psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia, but occurs in non-pathological, normal subjects also.
