Description:

Come on out to the ACX (Astral Codex Ten) Montreal Meetup. We will be hosting a discussion about an intriguing and exciting topic: the Lindy effect.

Simply put, the Lindy effect states that the longer something has existed, the longer it will continue to exist. The lifespan of non-biological entities increases as time goes on, instead of decreasing. If we keep this in mind, we might ignore the newest trends and decide to spend our time on things that have withstood the test of time.

Is this a valuable way to make decisions? Is the Lindy effect compatible with a rationalist worldview or mere pseudoscience? We have selected two articles: one to explain the Lindy effect and one to provide an example of how it can be applied. Doing the reading is recommended but feel free to come to the meetup even if you forget or don't have time to.
