Very recently—in just the last few decades—the human species has acquired a great deal of new knowledge about human rationality.
Perhaps this is an assumption? Schools of thoughts and philosophies have existed since time immemorial to address skillsets which would require an individual to live in balance and harmony with environment and themselves (which would conceptually be similar to focus on lifestyle rather on organization challenges, which the author talks about in preface of this chapter).
