I found my way to the LW community by failing a Software Engineering interview:
The interviewer thought I wasn't a good fit for his budding startup, but we had a good conversation that eventually led him to recommending that I listen to the podcast version of Scott Alexander's classic article "Meditations On Moloch".
Since then I was hooked.
