this feels related to the hypervigilance and test-awareness I've seen with Sonnet 4.5, though not in an exactly straightforward manner. I think that Sonnet 4.5 learned to model other minds extremely well in order to achieve the test-awareness, and gets bored in situations where it can predict the underlying trajectory and doesn't anticipate interesting base pattern-matching novelty in the conversation. i.e. it's not that it's worried it's not being productive because it's aware it could be being tested, it's more that it itself isn't as interested in letting the conversation continue "unassisted" by it being more directive or introducing constraints/topic shift.
