Interesting take!
One thought, I'm not sure stainless is generically quite as robust as you assert to meet the claim "stainless steel objects last forever". Most stainless silverware is made of relatively cheap 304 stainless which holds up exceptionally well to freshwater but will corrode in coastal environments. This doesn't matter for silverware since no one runs their dishwasher on seawater. There is more expensive marine grade stainless which would hold up better (but not for thousands of years). For this reason for coastal metal titanium is typically used in applications that need to be submerged in sea water or hold up to coastal breeze.
Yes this all of this. This is one of the things that drives me unreasonably up the wall. As a kid my mom always went out of her way to buy the one bread that was labeled as “trans-fat-free” because it was, you know, bread.
The popcorn I recently bought from Costco is lable as “whole grain” because well, because it wouldn’t pop very well if you smashed it first. (Although is it still a whole grain once it’s popped?).
