Why do you think stating one is atheist and materialist should be part of the message? I thought such statements were read as performative / a distinct political register, which would weaken the message. Similar to how a CEO talking about "synergies" and the like would imply the object-level contents of what they are saying are probably not the point.
I've basically cut myself off of all public online platforms because of similar reasoning. A combination of "it would affect my personality in a bad way" and "I could develop a bad reputation that's hard to get rid of" made me think of participating online in general as a low EV activity.
However, I'm realizing that this was likely a mistake. Looking at an online community in read-only mode is very depressing to me at least. I suspect it also has other bad effects, such as training yourself to feel like you have no agency. Not to mention all the people you ... (read more)
