This is the first time I've ever commented on Lesswrong, as a British policy professional. I don't think this is a problem unique to the EA community. Half my professional life is giving candid off the record advice about how to navigate government, how to make politicians care about your issue, when you need the Civil Service, how to use special advisors etc. I'm sure many of the professionals you work with would be happy to give US specific advice in that vein.
