I first read this over a year ago and been trying to put into words about how much I hate it and I think I finally figured it out, the narrative presents genocide and eugenics as viable strategies across all species as well as the dehumanization of children.
First off, every species is under the same blanket, The Babyeaters all love eating children and never feel guilt over it, The Superhappies all always love having sex and never wanna feel anything bad, and The Humans all are okay with being raped at any moment and never have any disabilities. Because why would any Babyeater wanna be weak? Why would any Superhappy would want to see sad stuff? Why would any human want to be neurodivergent, asexual, communist, any sort of religious or anything other than white?
That’s another thing that irks me, there is no diversity, the Babyeaters all regularly commit genocide against their own who don’t agree ideologically and they succeed? They regularly kill large swarms of their population and the narrative wants us to think they could have anything resembling peace without their population being constantly lobotomized, you can’t kill ideas, they shift, killing the player with the ball doesn’t remove the ball, but somehow every single Babyeater accepts it as fact, because they know that if they don’t they will die.
Superhappies are all always constantly happy, if any large scale tragedy happens to them they will all either die or be traumatized into catatonia, they have no method to process it besides ignoring it, luckily tragedy never happens because they live forever, and there is no possible way for them to be hurt or permanently die, there’s no way they could have survived a single plague.
Humans have cured all disease, including black people, they just aren’t born anymore, they have the capability to change their genetic nature as well as their own form and they all choose to be white and think the same way, I’m tired of pretending that any of this is remotely possible, if people could choose who they are then there would be so much variety in people, spiraling out of humanoid designs into whatever form they like, if they are all look like basic humans still then either they are being forced to, or they can’t really control genetics, which means that people with disabilities are still born into a society that pretends they don’t exist.
And the children, in every single species they are abused, in The Babyeaters they are tortured with the possibility of their death constantly until their an adult and are groomed into fitting the role of torturer, The first appearance of The Superhappies involves them using babies as sex toys and any children is constantly told that they should enjoy what’s being done to them and never get a break from the stimulation and in The Humans it is totally legal to rape children and their parents have so much control over them that they can kill them easily.
This story treats morality as a purely buoglogical thing, like there can’t physically be anything that breaks the biological mold, it treats children and the disabled as props to be morally outraged over, they only get a voice once they are ‘cured’ and worst of all, it treats these convoluted, homogenized societies as actual possibilities that everyone would just, accept.
