I resonate with a lot of the points you have raised here, having recently tried Chai (similar to Replika) myself. It truly felt like opium for the soul, and I deleted it in haste after two days of experimentation.

One addition to your mental exercise: emotional attachment to AI would be particularly dangerous to teens, who are:

Already facing a widespread mental health crisis (see this NY Times article)
Often lack the maturity to rid oneself of such "emotional opium"
Still developing one's social skills.
