It seems like this would mainly help against insiders accidentally giving away sensitive information. An employee can just take off the device if they really want to.
It also strikes me that frontier lab employees have a lot of influence. At OpenAI they've had the leverage to retroactively remove the non-disparagement clause from the employment agreemeent and to override OAI's board to reinstate Sam Altman. So one of the frontier labs enforcing a Big Brother Friend device on their employees might not fly.

I think we underrate the chance of the government nationalizing AI labs (for strategic importance and funding of basic research reasons). If it happens, not quitting leaves the door open for whistleblowing down the line, for example to the opposition political party. It's clear that the Hugging Face incident is not the kind of warning shot that can be leveraged into legislation, even with the head of alignment at the frontier lab admitting he has a 10% p(doom). Even things that feel special in the moment can get wiped. I think your strategy of connecting the over-the-top dresses to your real life is one of a few ways we can reinforce memories. Knowing someone's going to ask about the experience is another strong one in my experience
