The epidemiological benefits of sun exposure previously attributed to vitamin D may actually be mediated by another mechanism (possibly nitric oxide). This is something that some people (namely Dr. Richard Weller at Edinburgh) have been advocating may call for a major change in our advice of sun avoidance for public health.
