We all want AI systems to be used safely and responsibly. But the potential for harm and misuse might be very great, and this is starting to come to the attention of national governments.

But, given the complexity of the problem, what is a government to do? Policy researchers at the Future of Life Institute recently made a splash with their open letter calling for a pause in development of the most capable AI systems. But they also have a number of other recommendations, which we'll be talking about today.
