This week we're doing a partitioned book club reading of the series on LW posts on geometric rationality by Scott Garrabrant. The whole series can be found here. Each post in the series is relatively self-contained, but the overarching theme is techniques that maximize the expectation of the logarithm of some natural quantity.
Call dibs on one or two posts in the series here, and read those posts (posts are of different lengths - if you feel the first post you picked is on the shorter side, you can read another one). Note that the series is somewhat technical, and some posts require more math than others - pick something you're comfortable with. Also, most of these topics are pretty well-known; feel free to consult Wikipedia or any other source, in addition to the post you read.
Discussion
We'll have everyone summarize the post they read to the group first. For each section, we'll discuss the technique, in what context it makes sense, and any other question the group might have.
Location
Meet at Holland Village MRT Exit B (below ground part) at 3 pm. We will wait for everyone to gather for 5-10 mins, and then head over to my nearby apartment. If you've been here before, feel free to come directly to the apartment (though you may need to wait to be let in).
Some snacks will be provided. There are many restaurants and a hawker centre nearby, if you want to buy your own food.
