Welcome to the first in-person LW meetup since the before times!

Concerns of existential risk are always thick in the Rationalist community. Recent events have brought fears of nuclear war back to the forefront.

Thankfully, it turns out nuclear war is not actually an existential risk. We will have Bean from NavalGazing joining us virtually to tell us why nuclear war is much less destructive than most people think, expanding on his recent blog post: https://www.navalgazing.net/Nuclear-Weapon-Destructiveness

Afterwards, we will have a continued structured discussion themed around war and existential risk.

Snacks will be provided, and there will be an informal dinner afterwards.

Bio: Bean is a professional aeronautic engineer and amateur military historian. For his blog Naval Gazing (which originated as a series of comments on SlateStarCodex), he has written over 400 posts, primarily on battleships and 20th-century naval history. He owns a collection of over 300 military books.
