I’ve noticed that some systems—whether they’re organizations, projects, or even small habits—seem to “remember” what they are without constant maintenance. They keep their shape and purpose even when no one is actively steering them. Others, by contrast, start to drift the moment active oversight stops.

This observation came from looking at long-term projects I’ve been involved with. The ones that lasted weren’t the ones with the most activity or resources—they were the ones with embedded structures that made their identity self-reinforcing.

It’s what led me to this phrasing:

Continuity is never accidental.
It exists because a structure remembers what it is—
even when no one is watching.
