Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1-4: Qul huwa Allahu Ahad, Allahu al-Samad, lam yalid wa lam yulad — Allah is Ahad (One), Samad (Absolute/ Self-sufficient), not born, nor giving birth. Language separates the Absolute from born/created beings.
Surah Al-Hashr 59:24: Huwa Allahu al-Khaliq al-Bari' al-Musawwir — He is Allah, the Creator, the Originator, the Fashioner. One identity, three functional designations in one verse.
2. Vedic Śruti — Being, One without a second, and its manifestation
Chandogya Upanishad 6.2.1 (Śruti): Sad eva somyedam agra asid ekam evadvitiyam — In the beginning, there was Being alone, one, without a second. Key words: Sat = Being, Ekam = One, Advitiyam = without second.
Chandogya 6.2.3: Bahu syam prajayeyeti — May I become many and be manifested. Same corpus shows structure: Ekam/Advitiyam → Bahu (one → manifestation into many).
Rigveda 10.129 Nasadiya Sukta (Śruti): Nasadasin no sadasit tadanim — Then there was neither non-being nor being. An epistemic humility about pre-creation state, not a definitive theology.
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.4.1 (Śruti): Atmaivedam agra asit purushavidhah — In the beginning this was Atman alone.
3. Hebrew Bible / Tanakh — One Absolute with many functional titles
Deuteronomy 6:4: Shema Yisrael, YHWH Eloheinu, YHWH Echad — Hear, O Israel: YHWH our God, YHWH is One. Echad = One.
Isaiah 44:24: I am YHWH, Maker of all things, who alone stretched out the heavens. One speaker = LORD → Maker → stretcher of heavens. One identity, multiple functional designations, parallel to Quran 59:24.
Isaiah 44:6: I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god. Language of incomparable Absolute.
4. Sikh Scripture — One Reality, Unborn, Self-existent, Creator
Guru Granth Sahib, Mul Mantar: Ik Oankar, Sat Naam, Karta Purakh, Nirbhau, Nirvair, Akal Murat, Ajuni, Saibhang — One Reality, True Name, Creator-Doer (Karta Purakh), Timeless, Unborn (Ajuni), Self-existent (Saibhang). Creator + Unborn + Self-existent appear together for one Absolute.
Methodological Note on Sources
To avoid conflation, I classify sources as:
Śruti / Revelation Corpus: Quran, Rigveda, Chandogya & Brihadaranyaka Upanishads, Tanakh, Guru Granth Sahib (as per respective traditions).
Smriti / Later religious literature: Bhagavad Gita (e.g., Gita 7:24 — Avyaktam vyaktim apannam... distinction between Unmanifest and manifest form). Important for later theology, but not used here as primary Śruti evidence.
Later commentary: Shankara, Ramanuja, Madhva etc. are interpretive layers, separate from the root text.
The research question I keep separate is: What does the oldest corpus itself say about Absolute vs designation? and How did later theology interpret it? This essay focuses only on.
A Final Note on Power
The greatest misunderstanding of power in the modern world is that it flows from the absence of constraint. That the most powerful entity is the one with no limits, no accountability, no acknowledgment of anything above itself the Quranic architecture suggests the opposite. The most powerful position available to a finite being is not the illusion of origination. It is the mastery of making - the full. conscious, responsible exercise of the capacity to arrange existing material into new form, in alignment with the logic of the system that made the material possible in the first place.
Great power comes with great responsibility. And great responsibility - genuinely accepted not performed - is itself the source of great power. Not because responsibility is a virtue that gets rewarded. But because a maker who understands his layer, who works within the logic of the root system rather than against it, is working with the full force of the architecture behind him.
The maker who forgets this does not become more powerful. He becomes a sub-system in conflict with its own root. And systems in conflict with their roots do not grow. They collapse - slowly, then all at once.
The question is not whether you are a maker. You are. We all are. The question is whether you know what you are making, within what system, and in alignment with whose logic. That clarity - that precise, unsentimental, architecturally honest self-knowledge - is not a spiritual luxury. It is the foundation of everything that lasts.
