Hi all,
Open question: what is the point of metaphysics?
Why do we feel the need to invoke the supernatural in order to explain the natural - specifically in regards to our observations of the world? Does insecurity drive us to make things up when we have no rational explanation?
Specifically, in regards to Kant… why did he feel the need to manufacture transcendental a prior constructs to explain how we see the world?
I would offer that we need nothing more than the survival and procreation pressures of evolution to explain our perception. Specifically, we cannot observe all of reality -- not even all of the portion of reality that is immediately available to us at a single place and point in time. And even if we could, there would be no way to process it all. We have no choice but to filter, and thereby, select what portion of reality we "think" will give us the best chance to survive long enough to procreate.
What prevents us from internalizing Kant's a priori knowledge through simple observation?
