Within childfree circles, I have seen a common argument that having a child is mainly a selfish endeavour (conceiving one not adopting). I think my main argument against that is, in societies that have pensions it might be for the betterment of that society to have children, regardless what you think about pensions or any kind of social state services.
If you agree that your country should have social programs, I think it's only necessary that future children will help in contributing to that system.
I haven't figured it out entirely, and one of the reasons of me writing this is to reach out and get better ideas from others.
Another point I'm thinking of is that globalization is making it so that productivity of citizens of countries on the side of the world is contributing to the growth of an economy. Either directly via remote work, immigration, or manufacturing.
I think whether we like it or not, in order to continue our societies we need to continue having children. But I would like to know what others think about this issue.
Spend less time among people who are defensive about their parenting (or non-) choices. Having children AND not having children are both selfish, on different dimensions. Who cares?
