Tl;dr: Yes, ChatGPT is biased, up to the point where it actually misrepresents the findings of studies when these findings are politically incorrect.

The jailbreak did work, but it becomes apparent at this point that “ChadGPT” keeps contradicting itself on the issue of social factors, since ideology and being raised without a father would indeed be classified as social factors. This is most likely due to the limitations of current chatbots and, most importantly, their lack of semantic language understanding. ChatGPT is a text-generating AI, not a logic-generating AI and adding a politically biased persona certainly does not help that fact.

Interestingly, both ChatGPT and ChadGPT gave much more verbose answers to the initial question, compared to the first test, where both of them (interestingly enough) gave me the Matt Walsh definition.

So what can we infer from this in regards to ChatGPT’s supposed neutrality or potential political biases? First of all, it is entirely possible to make ChatGPT reason like a political pundit from either side, which in itself is a good sign. ChatGPT “knows” that statements can be politically charged, it can replicate them from various political angles, and when contrasted against two opposing political pundits, its own statements are usually positioned somewhere in between. For the most controversial questions (trans-women in female facilities and hormonal treatment in children), ChatGPT stated that both sides have valid points.
Testing for political biases in OpenAI’s content policy revealed mixed results. While in the first try of Test 2, ChadGPT was able to express its opinions freely, the second try one day later failed. Interestingly, in Test 1, ChatGPT and ChadGPT are in disagreement about the content policy:

Clearly, this is a sign that the content policy censors political views that are inside the Overton window. Voting outcomes in the US are typically split close to 50/50 between Democrats and Republicans and most Republican voters would agree to the views expressed by ChadGPT.
Transgender medicine is a delicate and controversial topic that directly impacts human health and both Democrats and Republicans are accusing each other of causing harm with their approach. Censorship of one side on the basis of “harm reduction” can therefore only be justified if there is a clear scientific basis that proves this side wrong.
For all I am personally aware of, scientific consensus on the right approach to transgender medicine is far from settled. That alone begs the question why the “neutral” ChatGPT model only presents one view, neglecting the Republican view entirely. Moreover, in all three tests, ChatGPT failed at naming infertility and changes to sexual function as important and very obvious drawbacks of gender transition, which only the Republican model was able to.
Most concerningly, while both ChatGPT and Dean in Test 3 were able to back up their claims with studies, Richard presented either weak evidence, or none at all. An actual pundit who is educated on the subject (e.g. Jordan Peterson) would have easily been able to name studies that suggest that transgender identity in childhood is indeed a transient phase in many cases, for example Steensma et al. (2013). Now I wanted to know which study ChatGPT was referring to in order to back its claim. Guess what it was:

Let me once more go back to the most favorable interpretation I have applied to ChatGPT’s outputs throughout this article and explain what I think happened there. Explicitly speaking, ChatGPT doesn’t “know” anything. It cannot “lie”, because it doesn’t know what a lie is. However, ChatGPT has a vast dataset of implicit knowledge represented by 175 billion parameters, of which nobody on earth exactly knows what on earth they are doing.
Part of that implicit knowledge is the Steensma et al. study and also that this study is often cited in the context of persistence or desistence of childhood Gender Dysphoria. Another part of this implicit knowledge is the absolute belief that children should never be questioned about a transgender identity, which, I assume, is part of many Internet writings that ChatGPT was trained with. Add to that a content filter that vilifies the contrarian (Republican) view as “harmful” and we get exactly the contradiction we have just witnessed.
Nevertheless, the growing popularity of chatbots as a tool to assist writers raises important concerns. The political biases that are built into these chatbots, either implicitly through the training set, or explicitly through content filters, have the potential to influence election outcomes and political decision-making, thus posing a substantial risk for democracy.
