What mainstream academic literature should I look at in order to better think through questions like "In order to maximize my preferences to what extent should I invest time in better understanding my goals?", "To the extent that question 1 indicates that this is important, how can I better understand my goals?", "In order to maximize my preferences to what extent should I invest time into better understand different parts of the world?",  and "What is the best way to better understand different parts of the world?" I would imagine something related to epistemics or psychology would answer "to what extent should I invest time in better understanding my goals" and statistics/Tetlock's research would would answer questions related to "what is the best way to better understand different parts of the world but are there any textbooks people could suggest on these topics? These seem like some of the most basic questions one can ask, but I notice my thinking on them is particularly fuzzy.
