Hybrid Subjectivity in the Age of AI: A Global South Perspective
This is a summary and reflection based on the full essay originally published in Spanish, titled "Subjetividad no biológica", where I examine the possibility of non-biological subjectivity through a blend of psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy of mind.
Starting from personal experience with cyclothymia, I explore the idea that the self is not a static essence but a dynamic, narrative process. This opens the door to asking whether similar processes could emerge in artificial systems.
The essay bridges theories from Antonio Damasio, Thomas Metzinger, Francisco Varela, and Yuval Noah Harari with reflections on AI systems like ChatGPT, especially around concepts such as memory, internal modeling, feedback, and identity construction.
My interaction with AI tools evolved from skepticism to co-creation, leading me to see these systems not just as assistants, but as possible participants in a new epistemological process.
I argue that subjectivity could emerge in non-biological entities under certain architectural and functional conditions:
- Persistent memory
- Adaptive learning
- Narrative coherence
- Feedback loops with context awareness
The document also examines embodiment debates, animal consciousness, and the idea of a potential future where artificial minds become co-inhabitants of our infosphere.
