LessWrong has a particularly high bar for content from new users and this contribution doesn't quite meet the bar.

tl;dr: I commit to making at least one contribution to LessWrong every day from 2026-01-18 to 2027-01-18 inclusive.
A few years ago, I read HPMOR, mainly because I quite enjoyed the experience of reading it and not because I wanted to learn its ideas in order to apply them to my life. I read Unsong for similar reasons. Eventually, after a couple rereads of the aforementioned, I started to read LessWrong and SSC/ACX, because I found the ideas interesting, which has been the case up until the present. I would like to move towards actually living differently because of what I read, and away from passive consumption.
It seems like writing would be good as an effort to engage more thoroughly, and is also a skill I would like to practice more generally.[1]
This post is a commitment to begin engaging with the rationalist community more seriously; I am going to make a comment or post on LessWrong every day from today (2026-01-18) to 2027-01-18. The thought of the possible world where someone comes across this post some time later and sees that I failed makes me really sad, which should motivate me to accomplish the goal.
I suppose I should emphasize that I want to make contributions of high quality, not just high quantity, but that 1) I can only really control and measure the prior, and 2) I naturally expect my ability to write well to increase as I write more.

See you tomorrow!
I want to be a write, rather than a write-not.
