You know that there's a "Rationality Community" that exists online (cough and offline ahem). Maybe you've read some articles from someone in or around the "rationalshpere" and enjoyed their take on things. Maybe you hang out with someone who won't shut up about rationality, and while it sounds positive and all, you might wonder where the excitement is coming from? You're not sure if this is "for you", but the facets you've encountered have piqued your curiosity, and you think you might like to get more of a handle on this Rationality Thing...

OR

You've been around. You know these Rational Ottawa folks and what we're about. You get nearly all of the jargon and can follow along with the discussions perfectly well, thank you very much. But maybe you've had an awkward time of independently generating explanations of this Rationality Thing for curious others...

OR

You're a master of the theory, eh? Then it's time for some practical application!

The Center for Applied Rationality has taken a gamble on releasing some of their educational materials to the general public for the first time. We are going to take a gamble on making a serious attempt to educate ourselves with them. In the coming months, some portion of our meetups will be turned over to exploring the CFAR Handbook 2019:

These events will all be *related* but it is my intention to avoid making them prerequisites of each other. HOW exactly are we going to explore this handbook? How quickly and how often? Who will be teaching what? Also why?

Great questions: this will be the meat of this first, Intro-to-the-Handbook meetup.
