The Overhang is a two-day conference for forecasters, rationalists, futurists, and optimists! Join us for programmed talks, relaxed breakout sessions, and community-driven unconference space throughout the weekend.
Who we are: Sparrow Institute is our new nonprofit building a bridge between the San Francisco Bay and Washington DC. We’re hosting this to ask our community of forecasting enthusiasts, at the outset of great social change: What does Washington DC need to know and how can we help communicate this?
We hope you’ll join us for a weekend of intense discussions, crazy shenanigans, and joy! We hope some moonshots come out of this weekend’s convergence.
Your ticket includes:
access to the conference,
lunch and dinner Saturday,
lunch Sunday,
beverages throughout,
and an afterparty Sunday evening.
Location is the American Geophysical Union's conference center near Dupont Circle, in Washington, DC. Last year’s Manifest x DC was bursting at the seams. This year’s event is two days, with three times the capacity, in a much larger space.
Format and Speakers: A Manifest-inspired blend of a conference and an unconference. Programmed "main stage" with invited speakers. Four breakout rooms with open booking for your own sessions, talks, workshops, and games.
Speakers include:
Stephen Grugett, Cofounder and CEO of MNX and Manifold
Peter Wildeford, Head of Policy at the AI Policy Network
Dave Kasten, Head of Policy at Palisade Research
Molly Hickman, Technical Research Manager at Metaculus
Max Spero, CEO of Pangram
with more to come!
Attribution: All participants are bound by Chatham House Rules — you may not attribute statements to participants unless that participant affirmatively opts into an on-the-record discussion.
Media policy: Sessions may be recorded with the ongoing consent of onscreen participants. Participants may share photos from the conference — use normal courtesy. Journalists and bloggers are welcome to attend in their personal capacity. Press passes will not be provided.
Come join us at The Overhang — the view’s nice from here. . . . . . . . . . . . . (just don’t look down)
