This week, we are meeting at the Reep House downtown, because it's aesthetically appropriate for the meetup topic our usual location host is away and Reep had a meeting space available.
As always, vegetarian snacks will be provided.
Topic
For our third ever research meetup, we will be trying to summarize the existing climate predictions for 2027, especially with regards to the 'super' El Niño that is expected to continue into 2027.
Questions of interest include:
- How hot should we expect summer 2027 to be? Will it be worse than the 2026 heat waves in Europe/NA?
- What is the predicted effect of the climate on next year's agricultural yields and food prices?
- Are temperatures expected to fall by 2028 or continue rising?
- Is there a predicted excess mortality (over 2026 or 2025 level temperatures perhaps?)
- What are the anticipated effects for Ontario specifically?
Preparation
You are only required to prepare in two ways:
1 - Bring a laptop or comparable internet-accessing device.
2 - Consider any questions or lines of research you are interested in pursuing.
