At this meetup, we'll be looking over some of the points made in the recent MIRI book: Smarter Than Us, The Rise of Machine Intelligence. This is a non-technical introduction to some of the problems facing us in creating Friendly Artificial Intelligence. If you haven't read the book this is a great way to get a general overview without reading it yourself or to decide whether or not do so, and if you have read it, you can discuss your favorite parts with others! Time permitting, we may also discuss material from Luke Muelhauser's: Facing The Intelligence Explosion.
