The era of personalised entertainment has (just) begun. There are now two AI generated songs that I unironically enjoy (1 and 2). They are both songs about AI safety, so they speak to me in a particular way that they probably wouldn't speak to most people.
If we don't pause AI, we will probably soon enter a much more extreme version of The Melancholy of Subculture Society, as every niche interest group becomes able to generate high quality songs and movies about their own specific interests. At some point AI will be able to generate songs that perfectly fit the mood and circumstances of every individual person in real time.
This is another step along the road that started with humans inventing the radio (or arguably farming) and ends with humans wireheading themselves. But I suspect that wireheading will not feel like a drugged-out hazy bliss from the inside. Instead it will feel like having the perfect song, the perfect virtual surroundings, the perfect friend, the perfect career opportunity and the perfect drug on hand at any given moment. But from the outside it will just look like a brain in a vat.
