Reading a book in a room with my late grandma who's been overhearing people from the kitchen whom I only hear as muffled voices that I don't understand made me realize:
there are readable letters in my dreams now that stay the same when I look away and then back at them
my dream-character self can find himself in the state of having read stuff about "Snow class" (fictional caste system based on your job at a starship that ought to be unrelated to your skin color but the reader ought to be unsure about that, people of this class perceive it as the highest class, but it's implied that other people can and do disagree)... without doing any actual reading (not in the dream itself, and not in reality either), just as an atomic gestalt / naming a pre-existing concept
my dream-narrator self is capable of not knowing what the dream characters who are not me talk about/overhear (who themselves do know what they talk about, the simulated world is presumed to be in a deterministic state where the past has already happened, the gap in the knowledge my dream-character is expected, but the affordance of my dream-director to use an unreliable dream-narrator was surprising to my waking-self, I have no idea what they talked about, just that it sounded emotional and made me look away from my book for a second)
In the next dream, I was a disembodied player of a city builder, toggling full-screen to tech tree to unlock a wood-pile building that will add 4000 citizens (..which totally made sense in the dream but not after waking), then going back to the city and placing the new building.
The last one before waking was a ~movie about a girl from a poor family harvesting wheat and after a war she became the lady of the house because the rich family owning the mansion died out. Turned out not everyone died in the war, the old lady visited many years later. I didn't have any privileged insight into their thinking, only the implied narrative conflict and full visual details of the scene and clear distinction who is the main character vs the intruder that were not warranted by the visual details of the scene but implied by the hidden state warranted by the timing of the story.
