I am getting to this very late but US Commerce BIS is hiring for engineers and Analysts, but postings close at the end of the day so pass on and act fast if interested! I think motivated individuals can have non-zero impact on US Chip export policy relatively quickly in these roles and build this over time. Very low impact relative to what many on this site do but much higher than a median engineering/analyst role (for the motivated), I would recommend for someone who feels they are sitting on the sidelines and wants to "get involved" or is looking for a relevant entry point into (US) government work.

at least for the engineer positions my sense is that you are very likely to get an interview if you are vaguely qualified so I would not worry about perfectionism and just hammer the application out fast if you think you or someone you know might be interested.
