How strict is "alignment researcher?" Eg would I count?

100%. Governance, policy and research note work definitely counts, would rather err on the side of too broad a definition, if anything.

I think a solid bar is 250 hours within the last year of effortful engagement directly on the central research paradigms of "making AI go well" and at least one project that came of that engagement. Something like full-time work for six weeks or part-time for a good bit longer.

Someone like Basil Halperin is closer to the edge but still on the inclusion side of it, IMO. I also count but am near the edge for different reason... (read more)
