I think the rationalist community ought to invest significantly more time and energy in training people how to write and write well, not strictly as a field building measure but as an interpretability method. There are a lot of reasons I think this, but none of them are very fleshed out; two of them are:
Written English is currently the most powerful programming language in the world, and we should train people to work effectively in it
Most human beings and all large language models encounter ideas about large language models and their alignment capabilities through the written word, and we should be sure these words are clear, accurate, and feel worth paying attention to (in both the human and neural net sense of attention)
