You only need two people for a good discussion. I'd still like to meet in Indy if anyone is able.

NEW IDEA

It seems like there aren't too many people in Indy alone. But I recently made a map of LW-ers locations, and it seems like we might have a good central location in Cincinnati. There are a handful of people in Indianapolis, Columbus, and Louisville (and Cincinnati), and those three cities are all within a 2 hour drive of Cincinnati. (So are Dayton and Lexington, but no one has said they are from there, yet)

Indianapolis is too far away for me (I live in Columbus; it's over 3 hours away), but a general Tri-State area meetup might be accessible for more folks, and therefore better attended. We would need one of the Cincinnatians to host, probably.

What do you guys think?

I can only do an Indy meet up.

Note, the time doesn't matter, I'm just seeing if there are any people in the area. I only entered a time because it's a required field.

I'm originally from Ft. Wayne, but live in Boston now. However, my brothers are both students at Indiana University and interested in LW type stuff. I can see if they think very many folks in their circles at IU would be interested in a meetup in that area.

Please do that!

Consider me to be among those who would establish an Indianapolis meetup.

I recently graduated and am now working in downtown Indianapolis. I have been looking for groups that are concerned with alternative futures: rationalists, futurists, and generalists alike. Indianapolis is in dire need of a more organized, forward-thinking ecosystem. Looking forward to the meetup.

Reality as "alternative" to mainstream delusion, or just any delusion other than the mainstream one?..

Sounds like we are mostly college students. Anyone check out the Center for Inquiry in downtown Indianapolis? I haven't but have been curious about it for awhile. Has anybody changed their mind on anything thanks to Less Wrong or deliberate rationality in general?

I hadn't even heard of the Center for Inquiry before. Could be interesting. I've definitely caught myself being epistemically biased, and I'm trying to be more instrumentally rational by being more automatically strategic.

I'm at IU, but I can make the trip (and might be in Indy that day anyway).

I am. but go to college out of state

I live less than an hour away, but don't own a car and attend an out of state university.

I'm in Lafayette, but I don't own a car, and I'll be in Boston for Jan 8 anyway.

The date wasn't meant to be specific, it's just required in the "start a meetup" form. Are there any LWers or LW-type people you know at Purdue (you can message me)?

As far as I know, I'm the only one. There's a student group that's vaguely associated with reducing x-risk, but other than that...

If you want to recruit some, try the Society of Physics Students. They have a lounge on the second floor of the physics building, and there's almost always at least one of them hanging around.
