THIS MONTH: "Our Conflicted Brains: Competing Goals, the Illusion of the Unitary Self, and What To Do About It" - with Chris Watkins (aka Chris Waterguy).
This talk will be a look at our complicated brains: the trouble they cause us and how to work with them.
There are different ways of looking at our non-unitary brains. Dual process theory ("Thinking, Fast and Slow") considers two kinds of mental processes. Neuroeconomics looks at the differing roles of regions of the brain. Schools of psychotherapy (notably Internal Family Systems) as well as some approaches to coaching are based on the idea of parts of ourselves wanting different things and playing different roles. We'll look at some of these and draw out useful perspectives.
The aim of this dojo is to give insights and suggest skills for handling your automatic and your conscious responses.
At about 6:30pm some of us generally head for dinner in the CBD, and you are welcome to join us.
