Don't know if people recall this old 'Lake Michigan filling up' motherjones gif illustrating both exponential growth and computing capacity homing in on human neuron numbers.

Well, 2025 has been and gone, and Lake Michigan has filled up. But the exponential doesn't stop of course, so what happens next? 18 months and we have double the Lake Michigan volume of water. Another 18 months on, it's four times the volume and Michigan is drowned. Well before the end of the decade. On these trajectories machine intelligence outstrips humanity by an order of magnitude in six years. And keeps going.
