I'm currently exploring a physic idea of mine and even though it make a lot of sense to me while also being quite simple and elegant, which are often signs of being on the right track. I cannot shake an internal feeling i have that maybe i shouldn't try to find new science, especially when it relate to particle physics.
We keep inventing new technologies because we saw the fruits of it. How much it changed our societies and how easier it made our lives. But as many people said, we are still mostly primates filled with natural instinct of survival and selfishness meant to make us live trough an hostile natural world. Those instincts are generally poorly adapted to modern problems and powers.
Turns out so far that what is the most dangerous is generally too hard to make for few individuals, things like nukes or bioweapons. Which probably saved us from a few attacks of disgruntled but smart individuals. However there is no guarantees that a new scientific insight doesn't open the door for many people of creating powerful technologies to harm people and the world.
By trying to formalize my ideas, i tried to reach for people who have better math skill then i do because the things i need to tackle for my ideas are generally cutting edge in mathematics and physics. But just asking for this help feels like a problem. I know many of the scientific community share these points of views, some even told me that i shouldn't worry about most ideas because making the harmful products is often a few step down the chain after making a new physics insight. There are also generally reasonable social expectations were people want to be safe and will accept law enforcement to monitor suspicious activities related to dangerous projects like searching for bomb making material will generally at least get the person a visit from secret service agents to at least make that person feel watched and monitored, which can actually deter some madman. However the world is large and we do that in our stable western democracies, but there's never any guarantees that less functional systems don't produce harmful things with the new science made in the safe world.
Feeling lost and in need of advices from smart and moral people on this and i'm still split about pursuing these ideas even though they take most of my mind right now. I'm also looking for help in math but only from people who understand this concern. I don't want to share the idea with anyone who could just leak it recklessly. Even though it is my idea, i don't want to carry this burden alone and if good can come out of it, i want it out. But i also recognize the potential dangers and that's why i generally want to work or share it with mature and responsible individuals only. Which i think should be done more and more by the scientific community itself and some of these principle already exist in chemistry which is one area that is extremely useful but open the door to so many harmful products too.
