Yesterday, news broke that Big Tech was trying to sneak AI preemption into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Preemption means that the federal government would “preempt” all state laws on AI; in other words, if this goes through, states could be banned from regulating AI. Given the lack of federal AI regulation, this would be a disaster.

Congress tried something similar this summer, when they attached a preemption clause to the budget bill. But it failed in the Senate by a 99-1 vote, **thanks to public outcry**. Big Tech knows how unpopular this is, which is why they’re trying to sneak it in at the last minute – and we won’t let them.

With a vote expected as soon as this Friday, we need all hands on deck.
