The title of this question was too long for the frontpage, so I changed it from "How much would a test for COVID-19 that uses shotgun RNA sequencing the way we use shotgun DNA sequencing cost?" to "Cost of a COVID-19 test that uses shotgun RNA sequencing?".
We seem to have sub-1000 Euro DNA sequencing. From my reading an emergency room visit in the US can cost over 1000 Euro for a person who thinks they have COVID-19. How expensive would it be do to shutgun RNA sequencing the way we use nucliodtide sequencing for DNA when we want to diagnosize RNA viruses like SARS-COV-2?
