What are the implications of this for FLOSS? Might it mean lots of open-source projects stall because their volunteer developers can make software that perfectly meets their personal needs and so they no longer need the wider project? Or might it make no real difference (perhaps because not many volunteer developers would want to develop software only for themselves, or else perhaps enough FLOSS is actually developed by professional, employed devs)? Or might existing projects that have already achieved a critical mass carry-on okay, but we won't see so many new ones starting-up any more? Or something else entirely?

Writing plugins and figuring-out obscure config languages seem like the sorts of things AI could make much quicker and easier, too! I would suppose that AI would reduce the barrier to these (and to forking existing software) far more than it reduces the barrier to writing software from scratch.
(That being said - the idea of having programs re-written in pure Rust without twenty years of cruft is rather appealing!)
I've been interested in the concept of "soloware" since reading Abram's description of Sahil's worldview. i.e. in the age of vibecoding, it's achievable to build software and tools that match your specific needs.
