Some of you may have read the Sequences before, but many of you likely haven’t, and for those of us who have, it has in many cases been quite a while. So, we’re doing a refresher! This week, we’re reading Seeing with Fresh Eyes, which is about the challenge of recognizing evidence that doesn’t match our expectations or assumptions.

The readings are relatively short, and it should only take about a half-hour to read through all of them, so don’t be intimidated by how many there are.
Discussion questions
If being warned about anchoring beforehand doesn’t work, should we expect that the essay’s suggestions will?
How and when should and do you notice your cached thoughts? Is it possible to do it intentionally and proactively?
If comprehension requires temporarily believing something, is “just considering” a false idea dangerous?
How possible is it to actually clear your mind of everything from a bad source?
If the absurdity heuristic is likely to dismiss reality as “too absurd”, what should we use instead?
These posts were written before the replication crisis: How much do you trust the studies cited in the post? Which studies, if you found out they failed to replicate, would make you seriously reconsider the contents of one or more of the readings?
