Just fired someone for the first time today. It feels absolutely horrible. For Donald Trump to have done it so much and so easily, that it became his catchphrase is insane. How does a person do that while having empathy in their heart?
I imagine that the attitude depends on your own personal attitude to being fired.
For me it's like a much much less severe version of a breakup - basically, okay, it's not working out, you don't want me any more, fine.
Outside of, like, the very brief window immediately after I moved out as an adult, the loss of income is more like a "guess my numbers go up more slowly now" rather than a catastrophe. I know that a lot of people tend to spend ~everything though, that just sounds stressful in general.
Interesting. Yeah, I'm very ok with being fired myself. Each time it's happened, I've very much understood where they were coming from - I was just late repeatedly.
Yes, I gave two weeks of advance notice, with like, trying to encourage them to just pick any task they liked and doing that decently, then having more followups, etc. Tbh, delayed it a lot. Just didnt want to do it for a long time. Tried giving advice in a bunch of different ways of how they could improve performance. But kept being the case that time/effort managing them was lower value than their output, which just felt really sad.
