Waterloo, ON, Canada Meetup: 6pm Sun Oct 18 '09!

Michael Vassar and I will be attending the Quantum to Cosmos Festival of the Perimeter Institute.  Is anyone interested in meeting up at the Symposium Cafe on 4 King St N, Waterloo, ON, Canada, on Sunday at 6pm on October 18th 2009?  I might duck out at around 8pm, but Michael Vassar seems more likely to stick around.  If we get at least two more positive reply comments (plus the one person who suggested the meetup) then it'll be on and I'll take the question mark off the title.  If that time doesn't work for you but you're in the area, feel free to email me about meeting informally.

Result:  Okay, we have exactly two people RSVPing (I was hoping for three).  We'll show up at the Symposium Cafe at 6pm, possibly walk around or head out to elsewhere by 6:30pm (i.e., join the meetup by 6:30pm if you want to be part of the walking-around group), and we've both got a talk we want to attend at 8:00pm.  Either stuff will happen, or not.

We realized that one of the very important things that rationalists need is a put down artist community, as opposed to the pick up artist community which already exists but isn't of much use. This is because of the very large number of rationalists who get into relationships but then aren't able to figure out how to get out of them.

Did any interesting discussion take place that the rest of us might like to hear about, or was it all social primate stuff? (Nothing wrong with social primate stuff, of course.)

(Final result: 6 people, counting myself & Vassar & Rune. Fun was had.)

Yes, lots of fun was had. Thanks to Michael Vassar and Eliezer Yudkowsky for making it a fun evening for all of us!

So we have three people now. I hope this happens.

Oops, I guess I'm late - I just saw this post. In any case, I will come too.

We have two confirmed (stoat, and rune the suggester); we need one more confirmed for this to happen! Eirenicon?

It looks unlikely, I'm afraid. The timing conflicts with my Answers in Genesis study group... haha, nah, just kidding. But I probably have to work. C'est la vie.

Wish I could be there, but I won't be able to make it.

I'm actually in Toronto this weekend, but I might be booked up.

Anyone driving Toronto->Waterloo (or Waterloo->Ottawa afterwards)?

I'll just add my "yes", even though I suggested the meetup.

I didn't know about this event but I'm interested now. Waterloo is pretty close, so consider this an "I'll get back to you."

Okay. I think I have someone that is interested to attend that king of activity. He is not currently available but I will inform him about this. Quantum to cosmos? That is a way cool topic to talk about. This site really gives me the chill of the upcoming Halloween season. Holidays typically involve a certain amount of discretionary spending in celebration of that holiday, and Halloween spending is already beginning! Halloween spending includes setting up hayrides, mazes, haunted houses, and popular Halloween costumes. Halloween also means more candy and Pepto Bismol to go with it. This year, Michael Jackson costumes are already selling at a record pace, and lots of people will be out there with Thriller costumes. Halloween is fast rising as one of the biggest spending holidays. People are even dressing up their pets for Halloween – who doesn't love an insipid and annoying Chihuahua in a tutu? There will be plenty of Halloween spending of short-term loans on cool costumes and events for sure this year. http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2009/10/07/halloween-spending-jacko/
